Endure
The dictionary defines endure as "to undergo (as hardship) especially without giving in: Suffer". (source: miriamwebster.com)
This Word of the Week is dedicated to every athlete that toed the line in IronMan Arizona yesterday. If you're not aware, it was 93 degrees and winds gusting so fast that the trees were bending over. Those athletes had a lot to endure.
The amazing thing is, most of them did endure and overcome the obstacles in front of them. Some, unfortunately, didn't make it to the finish line. Those athletes, though, need to hold their heads high. Those of us that live in Arizona had a hard time bearing the heat watching the race. Seriously, it was miserable. They won the battle merely by having the courage to endure the heat and wind, and give it their best.
The human spirit is an amazing thing, and our sport allows us to see it up close on virtually every single race we experience. I am inspired every time I see others racing, and get a little better understanding of why enduring the long hours and commitment of training can be...pleasant.
"He conquers who endures."
